10 miles today and sticking with Galloway

20 Jan 2008

Ok I have just finished 10 miles on the treadmill.  I was quite concerned because of the muscle pull in my left glut so I took two panadol.  I also took no lucozade sport  at all.  I did drink about one litre of water and then had a banana and honey butty afterwards.

I managed it and the pain level was about 3 or 4 where 10 would be - have to stop!

In the event the pain problem was indigestion which is always a problem with anti inflammatories and a usual problem after the marathon.  My stomach was seriously messed up after the last one and I had violent hiccups on the train back.  I think I overdid the carbs during the raise and not enough carb loading before.  Also I had two lots of ibuprofen in London 2007.

Still - 22 miles done this week and no big problems.  I am sticking to the Galloway bible like glue now because you move away from what he says at your peril.  I worked at 13 minute miles - i.e. 3 mins per mile the pace I could go for the same distance at full pace.  This is really slow and I did:  2 minutes at 3.8 walk and 3 mins at 5.2 mph.   It took me 2 hours 12!  I ran a half marathon in 2 hrs 05 in 2005.

I had a sleep and now I feel great.  Bertie our dog is harrassing me to play ball- which is fair enough as it is his birthday ( two today).  3 miles per minute less than race pace rocks!

You know I read that Galloway says no step machines for cross training for old souls like me.  Ooops - I guess that explains my sore backside and pulled muscle.  I have planned my last three very long runs - 21 miles  next week, 24  and then 27 - 4 weeks before the big day!  Such is the recovery period you need at my age!

Fund raising is very hard work at present.  Still I will get on the phone next week.
