24 days to go

20 Mar 2008

Well the idea this week was it was the last big one at 36 miles.  In the event,  my legs feel very tired I am sure from the 28 miles last Sunday.  My kindly wife Pat suggested I might follow my own rule and allow an easy week after the very big run this Sunday.  Mmm I saw the wisdom of this after about 10 minutes into each run during the week.

All I have done is two five mile sessions today and Tuesday.  I drastically cut down on my planned training this week.   I was quite wheezy and tired training.  I am thinking of doing about 10 miles this weekend ( in the snow maybe?).

It is only 24 days to go so the taper starts on Sunday  so my will be a super taper!  I am not sure this is in the book.  I will try to get quite a bit of walking over the next few days and lots of upper body core stability stuff.

My fund raising has gone utterly to pot in the last couple of weeks so hopefully I have about three weeks to  rev it up  again.  My life has been very complex and demanding with lots of family and work demands on top of the training.  Overall I have enjoyed  this but I know I am pressing at the limit of what I can do and my body is creaking a bit.

I have read  much about setting goals so my gentle readers ( if you are still out there),  I offer this advice.  Set a very modest goal indeed rather than a testing one.  Success for me will be:

  1.    Enjoying it
  2.    Finishing it and not being ill afterwards

Unless it is a warm day I will aim for the half in about 2 hours 30  so I don't go off too fast( awesomely bad idea) and then see how I feel.
