28 miles in training - the big one!

16 Mar 2008

Well I did it.  I set off shortly after 7.30 this morning and ran/walked to Fleetwood North Euston Hotel and then back down the coast to the pier at Lytham St Annes.  After some four and a half hours I had completed just over 19 miles.  This was a very enjoyable run  in a gentle northerly breeze.  I was on a constant lookout for toilets!  As you do I saw the different sorts of people as the day goes on from the dog walkers that some out early to the fishermen and then the holidaymakers in blackpool eating chips as they go along.

I had quite a bit of pain in my right side but managed without painkillers.  I had lunch with my family and then my daughter drove me back.

She very kindly looked after her mum who is ill so big thanks to Mary.  She has got 19 miles to do this week so good luck also.

Whe I got back I had a short sleep ( bad idea) and then completed  the 28 miles on the treadmill in a total of 6 hours 38  - an average of 14 minute 12 sec miles which was just on target.  The pain in my left side on the treadmill was really bad so I had some panadol.  It was rough competeing the run - it always is when you have a break.  Your whole body thinks it has finished after 19 miles so to do an additional 9 miles is grim.

I stuffed a vast amount of carbs yesterday -lots of cake, hot cross buns, dates etc etc.  The run took 2800 cals.  I had about a litre of lucozade sport.
