Oh wow people are reading my blog

06 Feb 2008

Heh now!  Jenny from Actionaid has just rung and told me that people are actually reading my blog and even found it inspirational.  I thought it was a series of moans and groans about various things.  Furthermore I really was not sure if anyone was reading it.  I send a special hello to Ben the Superman who I think is the youngest runner and speaking as the oldest I reckon we have something in common in a weird sort of way.  His Mum's lovely comment on his fundraisng sheet had me in tears.

Also I send very good wishes to the "Convict team".  I met a wedding party running last year in full wedding gear and a caterpillar ( is that how you spell it?) from the Cranfield management school.  Just beat me - shucks.  As long as I beat the Rhinos.

Well yesterday I did seven miles including 4 mile repeats at race pace i.e 11 minute miles for me ( would be 4 hours 46 and a pb). I control my workrate very much on heart rate and managed to keep below 80% when you really start doing some damage that takes a while to recover from.

OK I have a very sore right ( how shall I put this politely?) buttock.  I reckon it might be that I am very flatfooted and still turning over on my foot despite the supportive  New Balance 858's that I wear.  I am just experimenting with some orthotics from Boots.  Actually I got tempted by the local M&S.

I was chatting to Liz Shuttleworth on our sales team and she has run a charity in a past life.  She shared some exciting ideas about how we might run a fundraising event.  My fundraising is a bit stalled.  I spoke to all our senior managers and pressed them to donate but they are all up to their ears in stuff at work and tired.  The local school have not got back to me on my idea of a talk and getting sponsorship but I will keep pressing since I am a bit of a dog with a bone when I get going.

My daughter Mary is doing well on her training and I have to admire her training in the dark wet and cold on the hills around  Lancaster University.  We are planning to do the London Marathon in two years together in my OAP year of 65.
