Woo hoo 2 hours 17

02 Mar 2008

Well I ran with Mary some six minutes faster than plan to run the Liverpool Half Marathon in two hours  17.  The idea was to test a first half of a full marathon at marathon speed.   Mary was a great running companion and encourager and waterproof carrier.  She is so fit! I really enjoyed running with her.

The weather was superb - sunny and quite cold with a brisk wind to keep us cool.  I wore tights - which look a bit silly but keep you nice and warm.  We chatted a lot of the way.

This was a very good practice for London.  My legs felt very strong.  I had a good pasta meal the night before and about 800 cals in mueseli, bread, banana, and an energy bar.  I experimented with eating the go bar on the move and was OK.  This is important because energy bars line the stomach with fibre and keep blood sugar at a much more even level the glucose gels.  Losing a stone compared with last year has made a big difference. My back held up quite well and grumbled a bit but I did run without painkillers which meant my digestion was quite good.

I was pleased that my hill work on the treadmill is paying off.  Running the first half some six minutes slower will still leave me with a shot at a PB for the full marathon.  I have three or four weeks or so to work on my leg strength and stamina not to mention cardio strength.  I was above 80% MHR for periods so I need to work on that.

Heh I wonder how everyone else is doing?  Now then Jenny - let us know in the next newsletter.  I am so impressed with the younger members of the team who are tonning in the money.  How are they doing that - I want to know!!!!   Talk to me!
