Pippa's Mission Malawi
Part of Mission Malawi 4
Join Mission Malawi 4, an energetic and committed team who are passionate about ending poverty and eager for a real physical challenge! Cycle more than 500km through Malawi and Mozambique, following a route that circles the southern half of Lake Malawi. Meet local people and see why Malawi is called the 'warm heart of Africa'. Learn about ActionAid's HIV / AIDS work first-hand as you visit project work and meet the children and communities whose lives you are helping to change.

My Message
MISSION COMPLETED!!! The hardest thing I have done but an amazing experience. Thanks for your support.
In May this year, I will be trading my running shoes for two wheels & a pair of padded cycling shorts and will be taking part in Mission Malawi 4 - cycling over 500km across Malawi & Mozambique and getting the chance to see ActionAid work for myself by visiting the people & communities that ActionAid support.
Why is Mission Malawi Important?
The incredibly high infant mortality rates due to HIV/AIDS in Malawi, over 1-in-7 people are living with the condition and someone dies every 9 minutes from it. Many families are left parentless and the eldest child – often only 11-12 years old – becomes the main provider but has no skills or education to support the family. Malawi is one of the countries worst hit by the Aids pandemic.
How will the money be used?
Mission Malawi has always been associated with the charity ActionAid because of their focus on providing community-based support in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Malawi. Their projects go further than medical support; they provide education & training to young people orphaned from HIV/AIDS so that those remaining can build a life and avoid the cycle of poverty.
As part of my fundraising efforts I have taken part in a number of events such as the Reading Half Marathon dressed as Wonder Woman which I completed in 1hr 57mins 07 sec and run a couple of car boot sales, amongst others. I will again be covering my own costs for the challenge and will be fundraising for the rest. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance for your support.
Many thanks
Pippa
