Pippa's Running Challenge
Part of First Hand Experience Nepal 2008
Congratulations to our fantastic team of 22 who have just returned from the stunning magical kingdom of Nepal where they worked alongside a local community building vital family homes.
From the moment they signed up and started raising their sponsorship right through to digging foundations, lifting bricks and mixing cement the team all worked really hard, with enthusiasm and dedication so thank you so much for that!
Throughout the week everyone got to know the villagers they were working with and despite the physical work and long days in the heat the days were full of smiles, laughter and fun as everyone pulled together to get the job done.
"The whole thing has been the most amazing experience of my life. I feel so privileged to have worked alongside such welcoming and lovely people." Grace Hall, Nepal 2008
At the end of the week the team had managed to get all 23 houses on the settlement started and the work they helped to achieve in five days would have normally taken the community 4-6 weeks to complete!
The team also raised over £78,000 for ActionAid's priority work, an amazing achievement! Their sponsorship will go towards funding ActionAid's priority work around the world to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of those living in poverty. Thank you so much to everyone who took part and to all your sponsors for making ths possible.
We are running the event again in 2009. If you would like to find out more just click on the link below to be sent a full brochure and registration form.

Over the last 6 months I have been doing lots of running (Reading Half Marathon, Harlow 10, British 10) & in October will do the Cabbage Patch 10 in good old Twickenham.
My Message
As part of my challenge I will be raising funds for an Action Aid project in Nepal.
The Nepal Community Build is a project working with the Kamaiya (former bonded labour) people to build vital homes and shelter. The homes will provide both short and long term and solutions to end poverty:
· Homes will be provide a safe place for children and families to live
· Families will be able to grow crops and create livelihoods
· Health will be improved by access to clean water and toilets
· Children will then be able to go to school
· The Kamaiyas will become a part of a community and receive dignity and respect denied to them for years.
In October I will be travelling out to Nepal to actually help build these houses with the local Kamaiya people and the see at first hand how your vital sponsorship is being used. I will be funding the cost of the trip myself. So your sponsorship will be going directly to the project and the people.
Many thanks in advance for you help & support in my challenge.
