Where's Rebecca - Treasure Hunt

Part of First Hand Experience Nepal 2008

Congratulations to our fantastic team of 22 who have just returned from the stunning magical kingdom of Nepal where they worked alongside a local community building vital family homes.

From the moment they signed up and started raising their sponsorship right through to digging foundations, lifting bricks and mixing cement the team all worked really hard, with enthusiasm and dedication so thank you so much for that!

Throughout the week everyone got to know the villagers they were working with and despite the physical work and long days in the heat the days were full of smiles, laughter and fun as everyone pulled together to get the job done.

"The whole thing has been the most amazing experience of my life. I feel so privileged to have worked alongside such welcoming and lovely people." Grace Hall, Nepal 2008

At the end of the week the team had managed to get all 23 houses on the settlement started and the work they helped to achieve in five days would have normally taken the community 4-6 weeks to complete!

The team also raised over £78,000 for ActionAid's priority work, an amazing achievement! Their sponsorship will go towards funding ActionAid's priority work around the world to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of those living in poverty. Thank you so much to everyone who took part and to all your sponsors for making ths possible.

We are running the event again in 2009. If you would like to find out more just click on the link below to be sent a full brochure and registration form.

My Message

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!

The Where's Rebecca? Charity Treasure Hunt on Sunday 8th June went off without a hitch and we had brilliant weather to help us out as well!

We kicked off from The Crown Inn, in Handsacre, where everyone was given their instructions and told to think of a team name! Their cars mileage was taken and their start time recorded, the clues issued and they were OFF!

Everyone commented on what a good Treasure Hunt it was. Nobody got lost, although some teams did clock up a bit more mileage than they should of!

The success of the hunt was down to my Dad, Robin, who planned the route and devised all the cryptic clues! THANK YOU DADDY! xXx

Here are the results!

  • Congrats to the winners; 'The Luton Lost' (Stephen, Kathleen & June AKA Mom)
  • 2nd place (by just 1 point) was team 'Bones' (Chris & Mark)
  • 3rd place came 'The Drybers' (Ros, Sylvia & Barbie)
  • 4th place came 'The Harvey Wallbangers' (Yvette, Ben & Uncle Chris), and
  • also in joint 4th place 'Emma-from-Stevenage' (Emma, Simon, Rob & Martin)
  • 5th place, picking up the booby prize, was 'Team Chew' (Carla & Jon)

The finishing location was The Old Peculiar, in Handsacre. A big thank you must also go to Thelma (and her staff working that day), from the Old P, who put on a great BBQ and very kindly donated the profits from this as well as helping us sell plenty of raffle tickets on the bar throughout the day - making the raffle a great success too!

Money raised on the day totalled £161 - which is a great amount and definitely helps me on my way to reaching my target and will go on to do great things for ActionAid and their work! PLUS another £50 was raised by Kathleen (from winning team The Luton Lost), who very generously raffled off the winning prize of a luxury hamper at her work!!

THIS GIVES A GRAND TOTAL FOR THIS EVENT OF £211!!

Many thanks to all who came and took part & also to those who couldn't make it on the day, but still bought a ticket!
