Spinning for a swim...

06 Aug 2008

At the last possible minute, I managed to drag myself out of bed to make it in time for my spinning class at the local gym. I’ve been a member of LA Fitness since I arrived in Birmingham five years ago, but I think they’ve got more out of my membership than I have in all this time.  Still, it’s never too late to change things!!! So, groggy and reluctant, I forced my resistant body out of the house at 9 o’clock, managed to flag down a run-down no. 35 bus (that mirrored my haggard appearance at that time of the morning) and made it just in time for the 9:30 spin class. I feel that I should mention that usually I do walk the twenty minutes to the gym (unless I’m running really late as I was this morning); and in fact, on the way home I did choose to walk the distance home, even though I was laden with much needed groceries.  I didn’t much enjoy the spin class today.  The different spin instructors have really varying styles – and I find the repetitive nature of this morning’s instructors approach very tedious.  My motivation to keep going for the hour was the swim that would follow – thus, I was ‘spinning for a swim’ (lol).  The thirty-minute swim after made up for the ‘mediocre’ spin class.  Thoroughly enjoyable! All in all, I’ve had a successful day exercise-wise; raising my heart-rate in aerobic activity, and toning up muscles in the process.

Not a bad week so far... both in terms of a more sensible diet and having managed a late night jog (twenty-five minutes) on Monday.
