Upping the ante!

03 May 2010

Yesterday’s training went really well. Under a gusty wind, we walked from Manchester City Centre to the picturesque village of Worsley. Going via a canal route, it took us nearly three hours to get there - mind you, we did get slightly lost at the start of our route. Then we walked an hour homeward bound as far as Hope Hospital in Eccles. I completed the 13 miles in 4 hours (averaging 3.25 miles an hour - I know these details because Al, my trainer, uses a watch/pedometer which measures all that). Yipee! So, it looks as if I am back on track to complete my 15 mile trek in 5 hours or under (fingers crossed). This week, my training took a different shape. Last week, Al had started my training on a fast pace (about 6.0), hoping that I would maintain it for duration of the walk but this was not the case. By the second hour, I started to flag and went downhill fast ending last week’s walk on a pace of 4.5. This week we started slow (at a pace of 5.0) and built it up, so that for the second and third hours, I was oscillating between a pace of 6.5 and 7.0. In fact, in yesterday’s walk I ended on a pace of about 6.7. Indeed, I managed to up the ante in yesterday’s training and I am really proud of my achievements. Once I got home, hubby treated me to a much needed foot rub and Chinese take away. Two more long trains before D-Day. I am really beginning to get excited about the walk now...
