Hi! I am running the London Marathon again this year for ActionAid. I thought I would find the training easier second time around - but it is not! The thought of going out running in the cold, dark, icy weather has been daunting at times and it is a challenge to remain disciplined and on target with my training. However, Spring is in the air and I only have a few more long runs to endure before I can start to ease off and look forward to the great experience of taking part in the marathon again.
I am aiming to raise a minimum of £1750 for ActionAid so I need your sponsorship - please be generous- it is a worthwhile cause and your money will make a difference to so many lives.

Hi, I'm Graham. I had planned to run the 2007 London Marathon to prove I could do it but got injured training. Instead, I ran a marathon in November 2007 which went very well for the first 22 miles but not so well at the end! I finished in 4 hours 3 minutes after having to walk part of the last four miles. This time I want to run the race properly and raise some money for other people at the same time. (So probably not unique then!)

Hello. My name is Mike Buggy. I'm a father of 2(grown-up)sons and recently retired as a Civil Servant in Portsmouth. My interests are sailing, mountain-biking, mountain walking, and (summer)windsurfing. I have supported several charities for many years, but always found excuses to avoid greater involvement, particularly if the effort is unduly strenuous or expensive.
As I recently reached a point where work and family commitments had lessened, I felt I could do more to help those who are less fortunate, so I joined the charity Action Aid's 2008 London Marathon running team.
Action Aid is an extremely well respected charity which works to better the lives of people in all deprived areas of the world. Participants in the marathon team were committed to raise funds on behalf of the Charity.
My training over the winter was hard work and I found that stamina and determination were needed by the bucketload. Your help and encouragement was the key factor in getting me through to the big day.

I finally managed to complete the run, albeit painfully. I was helped by the crowd and by the thought that I (normally a selfish, lazy person) might at last be helping someone else.

One of the key activities of our youth club involves raising money to help children in Ghana to be able to go to school and get a good education, and also to have access to clean, safe water. This is an ongoing project which we hope to be involved in for many years and we are kicking off our fundraising at the Adidas London Mini-Marathon, the event for young athletes which is run over the last part of the London Marathon course before the main race on Sunday, April 13th. Our team of four young athletes are hoping to raise at least £2,000 for children in Ghana which will form the foundation of our fund-raising programme, with many more events to follow.

My name is Lewis Williams and I am a teacher of ICT at St Columbas Catholic Boys School. I've been living in London for 18 months and have decided - after attending the big day last year - to run the 2008 London Marathon. I've always enjoyed playing sport and going to the gym, so the gruelling training that lies ahead will be exciting, yet at the same time, daunting. I'm really looking forward to the race and hope to raise as much as possible for ActionAid. All donations will be greatly appreciated!

I am running london marathon for the fifth time for actionaid

22nd April - 22.30pm

Hallo all.

Oh deary me.

This is my fifth go at this little jog. I seem to be getting slower every year but this may have something to do with me doing less and less of what I am supposed to do before hand - like running a lot. I have not bucked the trend this year.

This year I shall be wearing a top hat which I am making in a minute and will blame the wind resisitance on my slow speed.

Actionaid is really quite a good cause as they don't drive around in 4x4s, wearing sunglasses and giving grain to corrupt governments. They instead support many small communities all over the world, for instance helping become self-sufficient again after being exploited by whoever (usually us). Health, seed banks, water supplies education etc (read the pages).

It would be lovely if you could give some money, via my site. I give a bit myself so I hope you'll be generous despite the credit crunch.

Cheers T

Hi friends,

So once again... I can not turn a challenge down... and now have just 3 months to get myself from zero to hero and run 26.2 miles! And to raise £1,700 for ActionAid!

There is not much you can do to help me run the 26.2 miles but you can help me raise the £1,700 by making a small contribution!

Its a great cause and you can read all about it on this site (or a little more on the donations page).

Thanks so much for your support!

Well I did it!!! I ran the London Marathon on Sunday 13th April 2008. My time was 3hr 59 mins and 6 seconds.

It was my first marathon and I'm hoping to raise as much as I can for my chosen charity, Action Aid. Their work aims to fight poverty in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Action Aid does some fantastic work which really benefits local communities. You can see more for yourself on the links to this page.

The London Marathon has been be a big challenge and I would be grateful for any additional donations for a very worthwhile charity.

I would like to say a very big thanks to everyone who has already donated- you have been very generous.

Cheers

Hi, I’m John, 49, and the London Marathon in April will be my first … madness indeed, but it must be done before the big milestone birthday hits me in May. I’m a regular runner/jogger and in the summer a keen mountain biker (I still have a broken collarbone to prove it!).

Yes, I'm looking for your help! ... or rather ActionAid would greatly appreciate you sponsoring me to complete the run. If you are unaware of ActionAid and the good work they do browse their website (click on the logo at the bottom left of this page)... Chris (my wife) and I have sponsored several children and families in Kenya over the past years and I can confirm that Action Aid do deliver real, practical benefits to local communities.

So, please click to go to my donation page (it's up on the right ... )

Any amount will be gratefully received - it all adds up. The good news is that BP, my employer, will double any sponsorship I raise via their Matched Giving Scheme, so, your money will go twice as far.

Hi, my name is John Sanderson, I'm 26 and on the 13th of April 2008 I will be running the Flora London Marathon in aid of Actionaid. It will be my first Marathon EVER and I am seeking to raise £1700.
Why Actionaid? On Rugby Tour in South Africa in 2006 I visited an Orphanage in Johanesberg for mentally handicaped children and orphans with AIDS. It was a deeply moving and motivating experience, and as a result I passionate about make a difference by giving something back to such and similar projects through action aid.
Why the Marathon? I have never done one before and I was inspired by watching friends completing the challenge last year.
Be a part of the challenge and the triumph... make a difference with me and sponsor today.

Sarah Louise Harper

On the 17th October 2006 Vicky Buchanan was killed whilst cycling to Stamford Bride where she worked for Chelsea. Vicky was my closest cousin. She was 28 when she died and was due to get married the following year.

Her death was a huge shock to the family and she is deeply missed. In her memory a charity has been set up called Vickys Water project.

I never used to do any exercise (I had a gym membership but spent most of the time in the sauna!) so when Adam, Vicky's fiance, suggested at her memorial service we all run the Great North Run in her memory and for her charity I was the last of the family to sign up. But i'm glad I did and VWP made history by being the largest collection of family and friends running in a race.

For Vickys charity I have now run:
Great North Run Sept 07
London Marthon April 08
Paris Marathon April 09 (hopefully!)

and have so far raised just under £4,000

Please sponsor me as much as you can for such a good cause.

Thankyou in advance, it really means a lot to me.

I'm Ben, 18, and currently on a gap year before I head off to Oxford University in October. You will find me either popping in and out of Tomlinscote School, where I am completing my Drama A2, selling to customers at Comet in Farnborough, helping the wonderful kids in the Special Needs Dept at The Grove Primary or spinning the decks at Frimley Park Radio. I have many interests, including the Theatre, Theme Parks and charity work. Please support me as I will be running the London Marathon 2008 for ActionAid... in a Superman costume!
