STOP PRESS: Finished the trek on Sat. 13 October! How can I describe it? Hot, dusty but incredibly interesting and fulfilling. Our group has raised enough sponsorship for ActionAid's Global Fund (which is spent in areas of greatest need) that could, for example, build and equip three primary schools in Kenya. Thanks again to all our supporters and sponsors! Go to "My donation pages" for more on the trek.

I currently live in Luxembourg with my husband and two children. We are all British nationals but here we benefit from learning and speaking a number of European languages and living amongst many nationalities.
Many people have asked me why I have decided to join ActionAid's Tanzanian trek. I know something of Africa having lived in Zimbabwe in the 1990s. Therefore I know also some of what I am letting myself in for and it will certainly be tough! I have done bush walks in the past but a lengthy trek is a different challenge all together.
Having seen how those in poverty lack just basic every day necessities which we take so much for granted (e.g. access to decent housing and healthcare, reasonably equipped schools, rights to proper employment conditions) I think it is an incredibly worthy cause to raise money for the type of sustainable change which ActionAid works to bring about. All the sponsorship I can raise will be a crucial contribution to ActionAid's work.

ActionAid training weekend 30.6. - 1.7.07
A large group of us walked nearly 20 miles over 2 days in very wet conditions in the English Peak District as preparation for our treks. It was great to meet some of our fellow trekkers and the ActionAid team.
