Vicky's Water Project: Participants

Vicky’s Water Project was established to raise funds in memory of Victoria Buchanan who was tragically killed whilst bicycling to work in October 2006. On the 30th September 2007, 190 of Vicky's friends and family took part in the Great North Run to support Vicky's Water Project. This is the largest single group of friends and family to ever participate in the race. With your support they have raised in excess of £500,000 - including money pledged and gift aid - to bring clean running water to 20,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia.

I'm joining actionaid to help me raise money for a great cause.

A good friend of mine from university, Vicky Buchanan, was tragically killed in an accident last October. She was a very dear friend and to try and make something good come out of this tragedy her fiance, family and friends have set up a water development project delivered by Actionaid in Ethiopia in her memory.

Vicky's Water Project aims to raise £226,000 to enable the sustainable supply of clean water to over 18,000 people in Lera Town and the surrounding area.

Over 200 of Vicky's friends and family are running the Great North Run on 30th September to raise funds for this excellent cause, and create a lasting legacy for Vicky.

We are all trying to raise £1,000 to contribute to the ambitious target.

So please help and support me on to do my part.

Cheers

I am 29 years old, and live in London. I went to Newcastle University where I had the best time with the greatest bunch of friends.

At Newcastle University I met Vicky Buchanan, and over the next 9 years we became great friends. Vicky was a very special person - beautiful, intelligent, patient, kind and always happy. Tragically Vicky died last year in a cycling accident. I, and all her friends, miss her every day.

I am running the Great North Run to raise money for the charity founded in Vicky's memory, Vicky's Water Project. Please follow the link to my fund rasing page and give as much as you can. Thanks xx

On 17th October 2006 my fiancé Vicky was killed by a lorry whilst bicycling to work. She was loved dearly by so many and her loss left a huge void. In the face of this, through the enthusiasm and goodwill of so many, the idea of Vicky’s Water Project came about in the hope that something positive could spring from our loss. Vicky had spent much time in Africa studying water development and this seemed a fitting legacy to her.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid in to Vicky’s Water Project. On these foundations it was the intention of Vicky’s family, friends and supporters to write a new chapter in her life.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of so many over £520,000 was raised and means that construction has begun on a water project that will bring clean running water to over 20,000 people in and around Lera, Ethiopia. Since then a further £50,000 has been raised to faciliate the construction of classrooms in Lera to house the additional children now able to attend school. Through the Lera Town Fund their continues to be the opportunity to change this small corner of the world in a sustainable and impactful way and in doing so change the lives of many thousands of people.

On October 17, 2006, a close friend of mine, Vicky Buchanan, was involved in a road accident and tragically died.
In her memory, her fiance Adam Chataway (AKA Boj) set up Vicky's Water Project, with the aim of providing safe, clean water for thousands of people in Ethiopia.
It is a cause that would have made Vicky incredibly proud, and to help raise the projected total of £225,000, over 200 of Vicky's family and friends – including myself – have put ourselves forward to do the Great North Run in September.
The hope is that we each raise £1,000 – and I need your help to do it!

In 2005 I ran the Great North Run for the first time with a group of friends on a Sunny September Day. Vicky was one of the gang that celebrated our success and enthusiatically planned our future running endeavours until the early hours of the next morning. We vowed to do it again ..but faster!

Vicky's Water Project is an idea conceived by Vicky and a fitting legacy that Adam has taken to a whole new level through this event in her loving memory. I am proud to run The Great North Run for this charity and I hope to take part in many more events to come.

Dear Supporter,
I am lucky enough to count Buckers as a great friend. I ran the Great North Run on 2 previous occasions with Vicky and have immensely happy and fond memories of competing along side her. I even allowed her to beat me to the post in our second run! I had promised myself after the 2006 Great North Run that I would never do it again, citing a dodgy knee and laziness as my excuses. I am now dusting off the running shoes and those rather fetching running shorts to ensure that our memories are focused on Vicky as we fondly remember her.

I would be extremely grateful if you could match Vicky's donation of £10.88 (I won't complain if any amount of zero's are added)! This is the amount that Vicky had on her before the accident and has become the first drop of what will be a gush of fresh water which, Vicky's water project, will provide for Lera town and the surrounding villages. (for more info visit http://www.vickyswaterproject.com)

Your support is greatly valued, thank you.

As many of you know one of my best friends Vicky Buchanan died on her way to work last September, she was also engaged to Adam Chataway one of my best friends.

In honour of Vicky's memory I will be running the Great North Run along with 200 others to raise funds for the people of Lera Town in Ethopia where Vicky spent time while at University. The money raised will provide Water for the people of Lera Town and the surrounding villages; as Vicky herself put it whilst studing for her MPil thesis in Ethopia "Water is a basic right of every human being"

As many of you also know I am not a runner... I hope this encourages many of you to dig deep to support Vicky's Water Project and force me to get out on the road and run!

Please feel free to contact me if you require further information or to double check that I will actually be running the GNR which I believe is not flat...

Many thanks for you time and donation it is sincerely appreciated.

On 12 August 2007 Kal and I will be running the City to Surf in Sydney to raise funds for Vicky's Water Project. Vicky's Water Project has been established in memory of Victoria Buchanan, a friend of mine, who died tragically whilst cycling to work in October 2006.

Vick wrote in her MPhil thesis on Water Developement that "Water is a basic right of every human being".

The aim of Vicky's water Project is to provide clean, running water to the people of Lera and Demala Towns in Ethiopia, where Vick had spent time working. If, as we hope, 226 GB pounds can be raised by her family and friends, the lives of nearly 20,000 people will be transformed - an achievement of which Vick would be so proud.

We would be very grateful if you could sponsor us to heave ourselves round the 14KM City to Surf Run in Sydney.

Thank you, Clemmy and Kal

On 17th October 2006 a friend of mine Vicky Buchanen was hit by a truck while cycling to work and killed. In order to ensure that the memory of Vicky will live on her fiancé (with the help of Action Aid) has set up a Vicky’s Water Project with the aim of providing clean, fresh water to the people of Lera Town, Ethopia, and the five surrounding villages. A project that would be close to Vicky’s heart as she spent time in Ethopia setting up a similar project in Dalocha.

To raise the funds for this project, 200 of Vicky’s friends and family are gathering together to run the Great North Run, this is the largest group of friends to ever take place in this run which I think is proof to how many people’s lives Vicky touched. It is a half marathon (just over 13 miles) but with a lot of steep hills to run up so it is still a tough challenge particularly as I have never run that far in my life, let alone up hills. But it will hopefully improve the lives of nearly 20,000 people and so prove a fitting memorial to Vicky’s life.

When Vicky left for work on the day she died she had £10.88 with her and these were the very first funds paid into ‘Vicky’s Water Project’. We are hoping to turn this into £226,000, the amount needed to complete the entire project. I would hugely appreciate any donation you feel you could make.

Thank you so much in advance for anything you contribute.

Adam, Vicky's fiance and Vicky's family have set up a charity called Vicky's Water Project in order to raise money to get water into a village in Ethiopia - a cause that was close to Vicky's heart. To support this truely incredible charity over 200 of Vicky's family and friends are running the Great North Run this September in Newcastle.

Last October, Vicky Buchanan - a great friend of mine for a decade - was tragically killed cycling to work on an ordinary Tuesday morning. Vicky was human sunshine of the brightest variety. In her presence you could not fail to laugh and be happy - she will always be missed. Vicky's fiance (and another of my best mates), Adam Chataway, has set up Vicky's Water Project in her memory and in order to create a permanent legacy of which Vicky would be proud.

On 30th September I am going to complete the Great North Run along with 200 of Vicky's friends and family. We are running for a cause that Vicky herself championed - the provision of water to those who are denied it by poverty and climate. The money raised will provide water for the people of Lera Town and surrounding villages in Ethiopia - whilst studying for her MPhil thesis in Ethopia, Vicky wrote "water is a basic right of every human being". If we achieve our target we will provide that water for 20,000 people.

So, for two reasons, please put your hand in your pocket and start sponsoring me:

a) I am a terrible runner and the more sponsorship I have the more motivation I will have to get training.

b) You'll be doing something really positive: helping so many people in Lera Town and the surrounding area in honour of a special person who was so cruelly taken.

Don't forget to click on the Vicky's Water Project link on the right hand side of the page to find out more...

Thanks for your time and donations.

I'm 29 and have recently moved to live in Sydney with my fiancé Nayomi.

I've set up my Action Aid page to raise money for my University friend Vicky Buchanan, who was tragically killed last October after being knocked off her bike on her way to work in London. The work her fiancé Adam has done in her memory is totally inspiring, including setting up a charity in her name.

The charity's name is Vicky's Water Project. The aim is to provide running water to Lera Town, Ethiopia, and the surrounding area and towns. This was something which was very close to Vicky's heart.

My aim is to raise GBP1000 running in the City to Surf 14km race in Sydney, on 12th August '07. Reaching the finish-line in itself, but more importantly raising this much money, would be absolutely amazing.

Thank you so much for your support.

On the 17th October 2006 my best friend Vic was killed whilst cycling to work. She was the most amazing friend to me and I will always miss her. One of her best traits was her positive and vibrant approach to life and its because of that that her fiance Adam, with the support of her family and friends, has set up Vicky's Water Project. Its aim is to raise funds to enable clean water to reach thousands of people in Ethiopia that need it desparately. It was a cause very close to Vic's heart and we owe it to her to do something incredible in her memory. I am sure that many of you are aware that I am not naturally fit and I would often laugh with Vic at how different we were in this respect. I want to make a difference and do something that would make her proud, and I know that completing the Great North run on 30th September will do both! Please help me to raise money for a truly worthwhile cause and do something to honour the memory of my wonderful friend who inspired me in so many ways to be a better person.
Thank you in advance for all your support and donations (to donate please click on GREAT NORTH RUN, under My Donation Page)

I also want to say thank you for all those who supported me in a very successful fundraising evening raising £522.I am training hard for the Great North Run and am enjoying (I think) the challenge of running but also of being part of a fundraising appeal for this worthwhile cause with the memory of a lady, Vicky, whom I am realising is greatly missed.

The aim of Vicky’s Water Project is to provide clean running water to the people of Lera and Demala Town in Ethiopia, where Vicky had spent time working.
If, as we hope, £226,000 can be raised by the team running the Great North Run, the lives of nearly 20,000 human beings will be transformed for the better - an achievement of which Vicky would be so proud.

We are not natural born runners and this is our first ever half marathon so PLEASE sponsor us (click on THE GREAT NORTH RUN)!

Thank you,

Hello!

Last October, Vicky Buchanan - a wonderful friend of mine since University - was killed cycling to work. Vicky was a fantastic person; one of those rare people who, regardless of how often you see or speak to them, have the ability - for some inexplicable reason - to bring a smile to your face.

On the 30th September I am going to run (a loose term!) the Great North Run with 200 of Vicky's friends and family to raise money for 'Vicky's Water Project'.
While preparing her dissertation in 1999 Vicky worked with ActionAid on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia. Vicky's Water Project, established in her memory, has worked with ActioAid to identify a similar Ethiopian venture that Vicky's Water Project could support.

So all the money raised will provide water for the people of Lera Town and villages nearby. If we achieve our target of £226,000, we will be providing water for 20,000 people.

Anyway, I'd be incredibly grateful if you would be able to donate something to this fantasitc cause, in memory of this fantastic person. No matter how big or small, everything will make a difference.

Thank you very, very much

Stephen Haynes

On 30th September 2007, I will attempt to run the Great North Run for Vicky’s Water Project Charity. The charity, which focuses on bringing clean water to Ethiopian villages, was set up following the tragic death of Vicky Buchanan in October 2006. Over 200 friends and family have committed to run the 13.1 miles which makes VWP the third most represented charity amongst the 50,000 participants. Having attended university in Newcastle and run the previous three half marathon’s, the event was particularly close to Vicky.

On the day Vicky left for work on her bike on 17th October 2006 she had £10.88 with her. These funds were the first paid in to Vicky’s Water Project. Having recently toppled the £100,000 mark, the aim is raise £226,000 which should help in bringing clean water to more than 20,000 people in the Dalocha region of Ethiopia. The focus of Vicky’s university dissertation was on the provision of fresh water in Ethiopia and the opportunity to continue her sterling work would be a fitting tribute to the energy and enthusiasm that she dedicated to the issue.

In addition to the Great North Run, I am jointly organising Vicky’s Super Eights, an 8 a-side cricket tournament held in Queens Park, London on the 18th August 2007. It promises to be an exciting occasion with a BBQ and bar on site, alongside a stellar raffle containing some exceptional cricket and sporting memorabilia.

Please click on the Great North Run link to the right in order to make your much appreciated donation.

Many thanks

Vicky, a good friend of mine from Newcastle days, was bicycling to work in London on 17th October last year when she was tragically knocked down by a lorry and killed. Her fiance, Adam Chataway, has set up a fund in her memory concerned with bringing water to some of the most deprived areas of Ethiopia. The project involves capping springs, laying pipelines and establishing water distribution points at a cost of nearly £250,000.

I am proud to be associated with this worthy cause and have agreed to take part in the Great North Run on 30th September. My aim is to raise over £1000 for Vicky's Water Project. I therefore have two major hurdles to overcome. Firstly, to run a half marathon- a distance that I am certainly not built for and far exceeds my usual brief sprints on the football pitch! Secondly, to raise this significant sum of money in the next few weeks. Unfortunatley you can not help me with the first of these but please do support me in the second. This really is such a worthwhile cause and she was a wonderful person who was passionate about the development of safe water in this part of the world.

I really need everyone to dig deeply if we are to stand a chance of implementing the project. Vicky's Water Project will change the lives of so many and provide a fitting legacy to her short life.

Many thanks for your support.

On the 30th September, I’m going to be running the Great North Run in memory of my cousin Victoria Buchanan.

On 17th October 2006, Vicky was tragically killed by a lorry whilst cycling to Stamford Bridge where she worked for Chelsea Pitch Owners.

Vicky and I spent some memorable times together over her lifetime, especially at the legendary Harpers Christmas days. I also have good memories of playing tennis with her in Sevenoaks at her local tennis club.

Just a month before her death, the whole family had been together for a beautiful day celebrating my other cousins wedding. I spent the majority of the day with her, drinking wine, dancing and playing table tennis!

I, along with 200 of Vicky's friends and other family will be running the Great North Run in the hope we can raise £226,000 to bring clean running water to 20,000 people in and around Lera Town in Ethiopia.

I hope you can sponsor me and, in doing so, help change the lives of these people forever and give Vicky a remarkable legacy.

Thank you in advance for all your support, it really means a lot to me.

For those of you who know me well, you will understand that this is not something I would undertake without good reason. The VERY VERY good reason is that I am running to raise money for 'Vickys Water Project', a charity set up by Adam Chataway in memory of his fiance Vicky Buchanan.

Vicky was my sister Sarah's best friend and bridesmaid, and became a good friend of mine. I remember Vicky as a girl who was full of life and always smiling.....more often than not at my expense!! Vicky had spent time working in Ethiopia with Action Aid, and its because of this that our aim is to raise £226,000 to bring clean running water to 20,000 people in Lera Town and surrounding villages in Ethiopia.

I'm trying to raise £1,000 (and more if I'm lucky) by competing in the Great North Run this September to add to the more than £200,000 my team mates are aiming for. This money will go towards "Vicky's Water Project", set up by Adam in Vicky's memory, to provide clean drinking water to the remote Ethiopian town of Lera and its surrounding region. This is a subject that was very close to Vicky's heart, making life a little brighter for some 20,000 of Ethiopia's poorest people, just as Vicky made life brighter for everyone she met.

If you would like to donate to my fund, part of the largest sponsored team effort ever to take part in the Great North Run, then please click on the link to the right of this and give whatever you can afford. As you can see I have quite a way to go, but it will be worth it!

The purpose of this fundraising page is to gather funds to support Vicky's Water Project. I will be running / crawling the Great North Run.

Vicky was killed by a lorry whilst cycling to work on 17th Oct 2006. She is loved dearly by so many and her loss leaves a huge void. It was felt that some good should come from an event so tragic.

Vicky had studied Geography at Newcastle University and then a M Phil in Water Development. She spent many months in South Africa and Ethiopia.

We have a clearly defined practical project. While researching her dissertation Vicky worked with ActionAid on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia. We have indentified a similar project to support.

Although I will suffer a great deal of pain in training and the completion of the eventual run, my greatest achievement will be the contribution I make to this project. Please contact me if you require more information and any level of support would be wonderful!

Last October, a good friend of mine Vicky Buchanan was killed whilst cycling to work in London. As a testament to what a great friend she was to so many, I and 200 of her friends are running the Great North Run to raise £226,000 for a water project in Ethiopia.

Whilst researching for her M. Phil. Vicky spent time in Africa, including Ethiopia, working on charitable water projects and raising awareness of just how many people don't have access to safe, clean drinking water. In her words 'water is a basic right of every human being' and by raising £226,000 we are hoping to give that right to 20,000 people in the Lera district of Ethiopia.

Vicky had also run the Great North Run over the last few years with her fiance Adam so it is only fitting that we have chosen this event. It would be great if you could sponsor me to run the Great North Run this September. Given that most of the people I would ordinarily ask to sponsor me are also running, every penny counts!

Thank you so much for your donation, it is greatly appreciated.

Vicky's Water Project

On 17th October 2006, Vicky was killed by a lorry whilst bicycling to work. She is loved dearly by so many and her loss leaves a huge void. In the face of this, through the enthusiasm and goodwill of so many, the idea of Vicky’s Water Project came about in the hope that something positive could spring from our loss.

Vicky left us with many things and one was the knowledge of what would represent a fitting legacy in her memory. While at Newcastle University studying for a geography degree and then an M Phil in Water Development, she spent many months in Ethiopia and South Africa. Therefore it seemed right to identify a cause within the area for which she had such a passion.

Our hope was to find one clearly defined practical project that would give all its supporters a clear sense of ownership and that would leave a really worthwhile long term legacy.

While preparing her dissertation in 1999 Vicky worked with ActionAid on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia and we have worked with ActionAid to identify a similar Ethiopian venture that Vicky’s Water Project could support.

At a cost of £115,000 clean water can be brought to some 10,000 people in Lera and Demala Town and the infrastructure will be laid to reach many more as funds become available. If, as we hope, £226,000 can be raised, the entire project can be completed and the lives of nearly 20,000 human beings will be transformed for the better.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky’s Water Project. On these foundations it is the intention of Vicky’s family, friends and supporters to write a new chapter in her life.

On the 30th September, I’m going to be running the Great North Run in memory of my cousin Victoria Buchanan.

On 17th October 2006, Vicky was tragically killed by a lorry whilst cycling to Stamford Bridge where she worked for Chelsea Pitch Owners.

Vicky and I spent some memorable times together over her lifetime, especially on Christmas Days and watching England play rugby at Twickenham.

Since Vicky's tragic death last October I have been massively moved and inspired by her Fiance - Adam Chataways dedication bringing something positive from our loss by raising money for 'Vicky's water project' which is set up to provide clean water to areas in Ethiopia

At a cost of 115,000 pounds clean water can be brought to some 10,000 people in Lera and Demala Town and the infrastructure will be laid to reach many more as funds to become available. If 226,000 pounds can be raised the whole project can be completed. This is our aim!

A whole team of Vicky and Adams friends have joined in force to raise funds towards this. The big event being the Great North Run.

The big run is on 30th September - to be honest, i know i'm running for the most amazing cause ever imaginable but i'm still dreading the actual run!

My personal aim is to raise 1000 pounds (i can't find the pound sign on this key board) to donate, I couldn't think of anything better put that sum of money towards. I hope you will all agree!

Watch out for up and coming events, namely the Highbury Cup tennis tournament (11th August)- if your not already signed up, make sure you get in touch. See you all there xx

I have set up this page to help raise funds for Vicky's Water Project, a project that will bring clean running water to over 18,000 people in Lera town and surrounding towns, Ethiopia. The project has been established to commemorate Vicky Buchanan, a friend I met whilst studying at Newcastle University. Vicky was tragically killed in October 2006 whilst cycling to work in London. She is deeply missed by friends and family and this project is a positive and fitting legacy that those who knew Vicky can support. Vicky worked on a similar water project in Ethiopia with ActionAid in preparation for her dissertation at University. As Vicky wrote in her thesis “Water is a basic right of every human being” so this project is clearly a cause close to her heart. I, along with over 200 other friends and family, will be running in Great North Run on 30th Sept 2007 in an effort to raise funds for this project so I am asking people I know to provide their support by sponsoring me. Our group target is to raise £226,000 so I urge you to give generously to a project that is set to improve the lives of thousands less fortunate than ourselves. Thanks for taking the time to visit my site and thank you immensely for any donation you decide to make! All the best, David.

I was in the same tutor group as Vicky at Newcastle University and was one one of many people to call her a good friend ever since. In October 2006 she was tragically killed in an accident while cycling to work.

In an effort to create a lasting legacy and produce something positive from our loss her fiance, helped by family and friends, conceived Vicky's Water Project.

While at university studying for a geography degree and then an M Phil in Water Development, Vicky spent many months in Ethiopia and South Africa. Therefore it seemed right to identify a cause within the area for which she had such a passion.

While preparing her dissertation in 1999 Vicky worked with ActionAid on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia and we have worked with ActionAid to identify a similar Ethiopian venture that Vicky's Water Project could support.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky's Water Project. On these foundations it is the intention of Vicky's family, friends and supporters to write a new chapter in her life.

Vicky's Water Project was set up in memory of Victoria Buchanan and aims to raise £226,000 to bring clean, running water to Lera and Demala Town in Ethiopia, thereby transforming the lives of 20,000 people. I am hoping to try and raise £1000 towards this by doing the Great North Run.

I did not know Vicky myself, but heard of her tragic death through a mutual friend. I live and work in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, but have never quite got round to doing the Great North Run. Having read Vicky's inspirational story and learned about Vicky's Water Project I felt inspired to take up the challenge. Please have a look at the website at http://www.vickyswaterproject.com/ for more information.

Vicky was clearly an inspirational person and this is reflected in the number of people, like me, who are going to give it their all on September 30th 2007 by running further than they had ever hoped to run(!) to support her worthy cause.

Hi there, I'm on board to help Vicky's Water Project. A little late considering my event is in two days time but I hope I can help in any way possible.

I'm running in the Sydney marathon on 23rd September, I wish I could swap it for the Great North Run in Newcastle, where Team Vicky is about to hit the start line but I'm in Oz at the moment and for some bizarre reason I've decided to do a full marathon. Soooo..... armed with some carbo shots, anti-inflammatory cream and pumping psy-trance, I'm going to pound the streets of Sydney on Sunday.

Please show your support by helping Vicky's Water Project - you can see what it's all about if you click on the link to the right under 'My Donation Pages'

Hi everyone

Since you've made it so far as to read this I'd like to thank you for your time so far. I'd like to thank you in advance even more for your cash though - and ask you to part with as much of it as you can afford. Now let me tell you why....

On 17th October 2006 a friend of mine, Vicky Buchanan, was knocked off her bike and killed in a tragic accident while cycling to work. Her fiance, Adam, in a feat for which I will forever be in admiration, decided to channel the negative energies into positive and set about orchestrating something both meaningful and spectacular to remember her by. As a result of this, I am running 13 miles - alongside over 200 others of her friends and family - on September 30th as a part of the Great North Run in order to raise money for a cause dear to Vicky's heart.

That cause is a water project in Ethiopia. In 1999, as part of her MPhil in Water Development, Vicky worked on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia. Adam has put an enormous amount of work into identifying a similar venture which Vicky's Water Project can support, and with your generosity (and my blisters!) we hope to raise GBP226,000 in order to bring clean water and infrastructure to 20,000 residents of Lera Town and Demala and their surrounding villages.

78% of Ethiopians do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. It would be wonderful if out of something so tragic as the death of an incredible young girl we could give hope and life to 20,000 others.

Please sponsor me. As generously as you posssibly can.
Thank you

On the 17th October last year Vicky Buchanan was tragically killed whilst cycling to work. In order to ensure that the memory of Vicky will live on, her fiancé, Adam Chataway, has set up Vicky’s Water Project. This project, carried out by Action Aid, aims to provide clean water to more than 20,000 people in the Dalocha region of Ethiopia. This is a hugely fitting tribute to Vicky as she had worked on similar projects in Ethiopia as part of her dissertation.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the first funds paid into Vicky’s Water Project. On these foundations it is hoped that a further £226,000 will be raised so that the proposed project can go ahead.

On 30th September I, along with 200 of Vicky’s family and friends, will be running the Great North Run to help raise the necessary funds. I am massively grateful for any donation you are able to make.

As many of you know one of my friends Vicky Buchanan died on her way to work last September. She was engaged to Adam Chataway.

In honour of Vicky's memory I will be running the Great North Run along with 200 others, to raise funds for the people of Lera Town in Ethopia where Vicky spent time whilst at University. The money raised will provide Water for the people of Lera Town and the surrounding villages; as Vicky herself put it whilst studing for her MPil thesis in Ethopia "Water is a basic right of every human being."

As many of you know running thirteen miles is not a regular occurrence for me... I hope this encourages many of you to dig deep to support Vicky's Water Project and force me to get out on the road and run!

Please feel free to contact me if you require further information or to double check that I will actually be running the GNR!

Many thanks for you time and donation it is sincerely appreciated.

In October 2006 my friend Vicky Buchanan was killed whilst cycling to work. Her loss leaves a huge void for her family and her many friends.

In her memory, Vicky's fiance, Adam, has founded Vicky's Water Project, inspired by the many months Vicky spent in Ethiopia and South Africa studying water development. The objective of the project is to raise money to provide clean water to two towns and a number of surrounding villages in central Ethiopia.

The fundraising target is £226,000, which is ambitious but achievable! It would ensure the provision of new, clean water supplies to almost 20,000 people, who desperately need it.

To help raise funds for this brilliant cause, I will be joining some 200 of Vicky's family and friends to run the Great North Run on 30 September this year (the largest group of family and friends ever to run the race).

Having hung up the running shoes some time ago now (or so I'd thought!) it's going to be very tough, but if you would like to help me along, please sponsor me via this website by clicking on 'Vicky's Water Project' under 'My donation pages'. Alternatively, I will have a sponsor form to hand between now and the race.

Vicky has also run the Great North Run over the last few years with her fiance Adam (Boj) so it is only fitting that we have chosen this event. It would be great if you could sponsor me to run the Great North Run this September, 10 years older and 3 stone heavier than when I last ran!

Thank you so much for your donation, it is greatly appreciated.

In order to do justice to her memory, her fiance has inspired friends and family to attempt to achieve a legacy befitting Vicky. So, on 30th of September 2007, over 200 of us will be running the Great North run to try and raise a combined total of £226,000, which will help to fund the project of providing fresh water for up to 20,000 people in Lera and Demala town in Ethiopia. This project is particularly fitting as Vicky spent time during her MPhil working with ActionAid on a water project providing clean water to Dalocha in Ethiopia.

As all of you are aware, I am not the most enegetic person. In fact, some of you have named me "the sloth". However, I am not going to try to break any records, just cross the line as a tribute to an amazing person.

On the 17th October last year, a dear friend of mine was tragically killed whilst cycling to work. Vicky was an incredible friend who was a huge part of mine and many others lives, bringing laughter and energy wherever she went. In her memory, Vicky’s Water Project has been set up to help bring clean running water to 20,000 people in and around Lera Town in Ethiopia, which is where Vicky studied for her degree and Masters and felt so close to.

We are aiming to raise £226,000 which would ensure the transformation of Lera Town, and on 30th September 200 of Vicky’s friends and family will be taking part in the Great North Run

Unfortunately due to my bad knees I am unable to run but Jamie has very kindly offered to take my place!!!

Please help up to raise this target which will not only make a difference to thousands of people but will help turn over a new chapter in Vicky’s life. Click onto the GREAT NORTH RUN

On 17 October, 2006 a very close friend of mine, Vicky Buchanan was tragically killed as she cycled to work. Vicky was an incredible individual who had an overwhelming zest for life.

For the last few years Vicky and her fiance Adam Chataway have run the Great North Run. On 30 September 2007, along with nearly two hundred of Vicky's friends and family I will be running the Great North Run in aid of Vicky's Water Project, a charity which has been set up in Vicky's name. Vicky's Water Project's aim is to raise £226,000 to bring clean water to approx 20,000 in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia. This was a cause that was particularly close to Vicky's heart.

If you would like to sponsor me please click on the attached blue link to VWP Great North Run. My aim is raise £1,000 so every penny really does count. Please can I ask that you dig deep and sponsor me and be part of this incredible cause. Thank you so much in advance for your support.

On 5 August, I am taking part in the London Triathlon. I have to complete a 1,500m swim, 40km bike ride and a 10k run – with no breaks between each bit! More importantly, though, on 30 September I will be joining 200 others in the Great North Run to raise money for Vicky’s Water Project – a project set up in memory of our friend Victoria Buchanan who was tragically killed while cycling to work last year.

We hope to be the biggest group of family and friends ever to take part in the 13-mile race and, in doing so, raise £226,000 to provide clean running water for nearly 20,000 people in Lera Town in Ethiopia. On the day Vicky was killed, she was carrying £10.88 and these were the first funds to be paid into the project. We want to build on this to change the lives of people in Lera Town, and create a lasting legacy for Vicky.

Please go to www.vickyswaterproject.com to learn more about Vicky or the project.

To sponsor me online, either for the London Triathlon or the Great North Run (or even on the condition that I complete both!) please go to the link on the right of the page.

Thank you in advance,

I am running the Great North Run on 30th September (along with over 200 others) to raise money for Vicky's Water Project. This project has been set up in memory of a friend of mine, Victoria Buchanan, who tragically died in October last year.

Vicky was a vibrant, energetic spirit who will be missed by everybody that new her. I met Vicky almost ten years ago at Newcastle University, where we were flat mates, so returning to run the GNR along with many other university friends will bring back some great memories of our times together.

Vicky's Water Project is a bespoke project set up to reflect Vicky and her work studying water development at university. Vicky spend months in Africa working on similar projects as part of her studies. This particular project focuses on Lera Town in Etheopia. We aim to raise £226,000 to improve the water quality and supply which will impact on over 20,000 people.

This is a fantastic project and a fitting tribute to Vicky.

Any donations are greatly appreciated

Hello,

in October 2006 my friend Vicky was killed while cycling to work in London.

Vicky's fiance Adam, has created Vicky's Water Project as a means for all of us to make something positive and lasting come out of our loss. The project aims to provide clean water to an Ethiopian town (Lera and Demala Town), making a permanent and life sustaining improvement to the lives of over 20,000 people. This was a cause very close to Vicky; she worked on a similar project in Ethiopia during her dissertation on Water Development.

In order to raise funds for this brilliant cause, I will be running the Great North Run in September 2007....That's right, I intend to RUN for 13 miles. Please bear in mind I am not an athletic sort, and rarely run further than the width of a tennis court. The money raised will be spent directly on this project, so anyone who makes a donation here is making a direct contribution to people who desperately need clean running water.

To read more about Vicky, or the project, please see http://www.vickyswaterproject.com/, but don't forget to come back here to sponsor me!

PLEASE PLEASE sponsor me. Thanks for your help ! (For any donations please click on Great North Run under my current activities and donate!)

On 1st July, we're taking part in the Frankfurt Ironman. We have to complete a 3,800m swim, 180km bike ride followed by a marathon. The organisers clearly decided this wasn't challenging enough as they have also imposed time limits for each discipline and an overall cut-off of 16 hours. The other factor is the temperature which reached 32 degrees last year.

We have been training for nine months for this event and would dearly appreciate any sponsorship you can give to help support us on the day. Our objective is to raise money in memory of our friend Victoria Buchanan who was tragically killed while cycling to work last year.

As part of a group raising money for Vicky's memory we hope to raise £226,000 to provide clean running water for nearly 20,000 people in Lera Town in Ethiopia.

I'm Jules, and on the 30th September I will be running the Great North Run on behalf of Vicky's Water Project. Vicky Buchanan died tragically when cycling to work in October 2006. I never met Vicky however feel I have, due to the unity of her close knit group of friends and of course her financee, Adam. 200 of her friends will be showing their unity and there enthusiasm for Vicky's passion by running a half marathon for her charity which I'm sure you'll agree is incredibly worthwhile.

While preparing her dissertation in 1999, Vicky worked with Action Aid on a water project in Ethiopia. Therefore it seemed right to identify a cause within the area for which she had a passion. The aim of Vickys Water Project is to provide clean, running water for 20,000 Ethiopian people in the villages of Lera and Demala Town at a cost of £226,000.

On the day Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vickys Water Project. On these foundations it is the intention of all Vicky's family, friends and supporters to write a new chapter in her life.

To learn more about Vicky's Water Project visit: www.vickyswaterproject.com then don't forget to come back to my action aid site and help support the cause!

Every little helps towards our target £220,000

Vicky Buchanon was a friend, she was vibrant, fun, witty and never failed to make time for everyone she met.

Sadly and so suddenly her beautiful life was taken last October, a tragedy to all that knew her.

In her short life Vicky gave a lot of support and friendship, not just locally to friends and family but she travelled far to do so, helping others less fortunate than herself in Africa.

To continue where Vicky had only just started and as a fitting legacy, her fiancée has set up a charity in her name ‘Vicky’s Water project’ which aims to bring clean running water to over 20,000 people in Dalocha, Ethiopia.

To do this a target of £226,000 must be met, it is high but achievable. Vicky has already inspired over 200 friends and family to help reach this goal by running a sponsored half marathon the Great North Run. I am one of those friends and am asking for your support so please dig deep and I’ll keep training.

"Water is a basic right of every human being" - taken from Vicky's MPhil in water development.

In October 2006 Vicky was tragically killed while cycling to work. As a huge part of my family's life (Vicky was engaged to marry my brother in September this year after they had met eight years previously at Newcastle University) she is desperately missed by us, as she is by everyone who knew and loved her.

Since Vicky's death Adam has been leading a project, carried out by Action Aid, to raise £226,000 with a view to bringing clean water to more than 20,000 in the Dalocha region of Ethiopia. Vicky's dissertation was on the provision of fresh water in Ethiopia and as such this is a very appropriate tribute and a great way to generate great positives from such a tragedy. To find out all about the project, please go to www.vickyswaterproject.com - it is well worth a read.

Via the links to the right you can find out a bit more about a couple of the projects I am undertaking in order to raise funds. If you could see your way sponsoring me for either of these events I would be truly grateful. Please do give generously to help build a fitting memorial to the life of such a spectacular woman.

Dearest All,

As always, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has generously donated, we are almost there and now it’s the final push in this last week to reach and indeed crash through our target. Any extra funds will go towards additional related work such as another bore hole and steel piping, as opposed to PVC piping, which will further benefit the area.

I’m sure most of you now know about the nature of this project and what is involved. If not, the same short summary is below. I have also attached Adam’s previous email from before and a link to an article in today’s Telegraph about Adam’s trip to Ethiopia and Haile Gebrselassie's commitment to our team: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=A1YourView&xml=/sport/2007/09/25/sogad125.xml

For those that haven’t had an opportunity, briefly; I am taking part in the Great North run for Vicky Buchanan who was tragically killed whilst cycling to work in October last year. We ran the same course together back in 2005 and it was a great day, particularly the celebrations in the Toon after. In fact Adam, her fiancé, has since relayed the story of how Vicky was taken ill in her taxi home that night, due to a combination of running fatigue and a little overindulgence.

On September 30th there will be 200 of us, her family and friends, on the start line, the largest single group of friends to ever participate in the race. We hope to raise £226k for Vicky’s Water Project to fund a water network that will supply around 20,000 people in Ethiopia.

Since last week I have started “tapering” which on the whole involves reducing mileage and eating a fair bit of pasta and carbs. Hopefully, I have done enough in the previous weeks to get round the course in one piece.

If you are watching the BBC Sunday morning keep your eyes peeled for the Vickys’ Water Project Team, we’ll be in light blue vests grouped just behind the elite runners on the start line.
Thank you all very much for your continued support, I’ll be in touch after the big day to let you know how it all went.

On the 17th October 2006 Vicky Buchanan was killed whilst cycling to Stamford Bridge where she worked for Chelsea. Vicky (Tor) is Zoë’s cousin.

The last time we saw Tor was at our wedding the month before, it was a wonderful day shared with all the family and friends. The fun lasted into the early hours, after drinking and dancing with the rest of the family, Tor discarded her kitten heels for a very competitive game of table tennis... using a beer tray as a bat (Tor had managed to break the bat earlier with a rather enthusiastic shot!).

When Tor was growing up, both Zoë and her sister Sarah spent many happy holidays with Tor cycling around Nursery Place, having picnics and putting on plays for Tor's mum and dad – not quite a West End production!

Both of us are running the Great North Run (21k) to raise money for Vicky’s Water Project, which will create a lasting legacy in memory of Tor. The aim is to raise a total of £226,000 to change the lives of 20,000 people in Lera and Demala Towns in Ethiopia, by providing them with clean, running water.

Please click on the link on the right hand side of this page to make a donation in support of this amazing project set up in memory of Tor.

Thank you
Zoë and Nat

Vicky was at Newcastle university with a friend of mine, Alexa. Last year she was tragically killed while cycling to work last year and this project has been set up in her memory by her fiance, Adam.

Vicky was passionate about Africa and as part of her studies at university, she spent some time in Ethiopia. Vicky's Water Project aims to provide fresh water to over 20,000 people in Lera and Demala Town in Ethiopia.

Please sponsor me to run the Jersey half marathon to support this cause which was set up in the memory of a fantastic person and which will transform the lives of thousands of Ethiopians.

On 17th October 2006, a very great friend of mine, Vicky Buchanan was killed cycling to work. In her memory I along with nearly two hundred of Vicky's friends and family will be running the Great North Run in September in aid of Vicky's Water Project.

This is a charity that has been set up in Vicky's name with the aim of raising £226,000 in order to provide fresh, safe water to almost 20,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia.

While at Newcastle University studying for a geography degree and then an M Phil in Water Development, Vicky spent many months in Ethiopia and South Africa. Therefore it seemed right to identify a cause within the area for which she had such a passion and Vicky's Water Project was born. Its aim is to raise £226,000 in order to provide fresh, safe water to almost 20,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethopia.

Vicky has also run the Great North Run for the last few years with her fiancé, Adam and it is for this reason that we have all committed to running. Vicky was a turly wonderful, generous and special friend and through this project - her legacy will remain.

On 30 September this year I will be running the Great North Run in memory of a close friend, Vicky Buchanan, who was tragically killed in a road accident in October last year. As a tribute to Vicky, her fiance Adam Chataway has set up a charity called "Vicky's Water Project" which, with sufficient funds (£226,000), will provide clean running water to nearly 20,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia. As Vicky spent time in Ethiopia as part of her Geography Degree and later M.Phil in Water Development at University this worthy cause will create a very fitting, enduring legacy for her.

There will be around 200 of Vicky's friends and family running the streets of Newcastle on 30 September in aid of this project - the largest single group to ever participate in the race and a testimony to the number of lives Vicky touched. I would be really grateful if you could sponsor me and help us realise this fantastic legacy to Vicky.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

Last October, staff and students at Newcastle University were deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of Vicky Buchanan, who was killed in a road traffic accident whilst cycling to work.

As a student and a postgraduate, Vicky spent several months working with water projects in Ethiopia and South Africa. On the day she was killed, Vicky was carrying £10.88 in her purse, and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky's Water Project, a fund set up in her memory by her fiance, Adam Chataway, to bring clean, running water to a drought stricken community in Ethiopia.

On 30 September, Vicky and Adam would have been on their honeymoon. Instead, Adam and around 200 of their friends and family will take to the streets of Tyneside to compete in the Great North Run, as Vicky and Adam had done for the past three years, helping to raise the £226,000 needed to supply water to some 18,000+ inhabitants of Lera Town, in Ethiopa.

We at Newcastle have pledged to raise £2,000 to help reach this total. Please help us in any way that you can.

This September I will be taking part in the Great North Run alongside 200 friends and family of Vicky Buchanan, a friend who died tragically in October last year. In an effort to create a lasting legacy and produce something positive from our loss her fiance, Adam, helped by family and friends, conceived Vicky's Water Project.

While at university studying for a geography degree and then an M Phil in Water Development, Vicky spent many months in Ethiopia and South Africa.
In 1999 Vicky worked with Action Aid on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia and Adam, working with Action Aid, has identified a similar project. Vicky's Water Project aims to bring clean running water to people in Ethiopia and, if we can raise the £226,000 that we hope to raise, it will benefit nearly 20,000 people in this area.

Not being a natural athlete, a half marathon is no small feat. But Vicky really was such an incredible person and what Adam has so far achieved is so impressive that it is enough to get me out of bed at 6.00am in the morning and training. My personal aim is to raise £1,000 and I would be delighted if you could help me do this. It is unlikely that I will ever do anything like this again so think of it as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky's Water Project.
Thank you so much in advance for anything you contribute.

This September I will be running the Great North Run in Newcastle to raise as much money as I can for a project set up in the name of friend of mine, Vicky Buchanan.

On the 17th October 2006 Vicky was killed by a lorry whilst cycling to work. In the face of this tragedy, and through the drive of many of her friends, family and her fiancé Adam Chataway the idea of Vicky's Water Project was born. The project aims to build the infrastructure to provide clean drinking water to several towns in Ethiopia.

If the project achieves its goal, and we can raise the amount of £226,000, the lives of nearly 20,000 people in and around Lera and Demala in Ethiopia, a country where Vicky spent some time working whilst preparing her dissertation, will be changed for the better.

I hope you can sponsor me (click on Great North Run in the top right) and help change the lives of these people forever and give Vicky an outstanding legacy.

On the 17th October 2006 Vicky Buchanan was killed whilst cycling to Stamford Bride where she worked for Chelsea. Vicky was my closest cousin. She was 28 when she died and was due to get married the following year.

Her death was a huge shock to the family and she is deeply missed. In her memory a charity has been set up called Vickys Water project.

I never used to do any exercise (I had a gym membership but spent most of the time in the sauna!) so when Adam, Vicky's fiance, suggested at her memorial service we all run the Great North Run in her memory and for her charity I was the last of the family to sign up. But i'm glad I did and VWP made history by being the largest collection of family and friends running in a race.

For Vickys charity I have now run:
Great North Run Sept 07
London Marthon April 08
Paris Marathon April 09 (hopefully!)

and have so far raised just under £4,000

Please sponsor me as much as you can for such a good cause.

Thankyou in advance, it really means a lot to me.

Hi All,
Thank You for looking at my page and sponsoring me. I'll be running the Great North Run this September for Vicky's Water project with several work colleagues.
I like to think I am relatively fit, going to the gym 3 times a weeks, walking to work each day but running is not my forte and as any of my friends will know (particularly my boyfriend who's dealt with my complaining) I've suffered several injuries and I'm strugggling with running. But I will not be beaten!!!
This is a fabulous cause, I hope you'll agree with me and give me your support by sponsoring me and wishing me good luck (coz at the moment I need it!)

16/07/07 - Update
Hello to everyone!

To update you all I ran the Bupa Capital Help A London Child Race yesterday (Sunday 15th July) and I think I did it pretty well (I currently have a cold ;-( although on a good note my leg injured leg seems to have finally forgiven me and is letting me run painfree! Hurray!) I completed the 10k race in 1hr and 11seconds. I'm feeling very pleased with myself as it was my first race. I'll be signing up for a number of other races in August and September for training for the big one..... The Great North Run!!!

Thanks for all your support and of course your donations! I'll keep you up to date!

I will be running the Great North Run (a full 13 miles) this September in aid of a great cause - Vicky's Water Project. Vicky Buchanan was a friend of a number of my friends and a charming and outgoing girl. She was tragically killed last October as she was cycling to work.

In order to have something positive come from our loss her fiance Adam has set up Vicky's Water Project which aims to raise £226,000 to deliver clean running water to up to 20,000 people in Ethiopia, where Vicky studied during her M Phil in Water Development.

To raise these funds 200 of Vicky's friends and family will be running the Great North Run which Adam and Vicky had run for the past three years.

2006 was meant to be their last year of running as they were due to be on honeymoon for this years race.

We are the biggest group ever to run this race and our efforts look set to get quite a bit of coverage both in the papers and television. Please dig deep to sponsor me for this really great cause on the link below (click on 'Great North Run' on the right hand side).

Please take some time to look at www.vickyswaterproject.com, so you can learn more about Vicky, how loved she was and this very worthwhile cause.

On September 30, 2007, my husband Andy & I are taking part in the Great North Run at Newcastle, in support of Vicky’s Water Project. This charity has been set up in memory of our friend Vicky Buchanan who was tragically killed while cycling to work in October 2006.

Vicky was an extremely special person who shared her positivity and enthusiasm with everyone she met. Her kind-hearted nature and zest for life always shone bright. On the day she was killed she had £10.88 on her, and these were the first funds paid into Vicky’s Water Project.

Vicky’s Water Project hopes to raise £226,000 to bring clean running water to 20,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia. This is a truly great cause, and one that Vicky would fully approve of, as she worked on a water project to provide clear running water to Dalocha, Ethiopia while doing her MPhil.

I try to stay physically active, but this run will be extremely difficult for me as I am not a natural runner and also suffer from sports-induced asthma. But, I am determined to finish with pride as it is for a wonderful cause, and I am therefore asking you to please donate money to sponsor me in this run.

This will be the largest single group of friends and family to ever participate in the race, and you can help to play a huge part in the success of this project with your generous donation.

With your support we can turn Vicky’s conviction ‘Water is a basic right of every human being’ into reality for the people of Lera Town.

Macarena and I are among 200 of Vicky's friends and family who will be running the Great North Run on 30th September hoping to raise £226,000 towards Vicky's Water Project. We need your help in achieving this goal - please sponsor us and help create a fitting legacy for Vicky.

While preparing her dissertation in 1999 Vicky worked with ActionAid on a water project providing clean running water to Dalocha in Ethiopia and we have worked with ActionAid to identify a similar Ethiopian venture that Vicky's Water Project could support.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky's Water Project. On these foundations it is the intention of Vicky's family, friends and supporters to write a new chapter in her life.

Please sponsor us and help us to achieve something really special and worthwhile, in memory of a truly wonderful young lady.

So this will be my first half marathon, and I can’t think of a better cause than running for Vicky and her water project.

Vicky's Water Project was set up to raise funds in memory of our friend Victoria Buchanan who was killed whilst cycling to work last October.

On the 30th September this year, 200 of Vicky's friends and family will be running the Great North Run to support Vicky's Water Project. This is the largest single group of friends and family to ever participate in the GNR. With your support we hope of raise £226,000 which will bring clean running water to 20,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia.

Vicky was a fantastic person. It would be fantastic if you could help me raise £1,000 for her charity. Thanks!

There are many reasons I could write here saying why I am running for Vicky's Water Project, but let's keep it simple; it's a fantastic cause and I couldn't be more honoured to be part of it all. Please look at the links to read more about the aim of this wonderful project and, if you can, sponsor me for the run itself. You all know how much I love my running but this is the furthest I have run so far and I think I need all the help I can get!

On 17th October 2006 Vicky Buchanan was killed whilst cycling into work. Her loss has left a massive void in the lives of so many and the setting up of Vicky's Water Project will ensure that something positive can be taken from this tragedy whilst allowing Vicky's memory to live on.

The project has been set up by Vicky's fiance, Adam Chataway. They met at Newcastle University and it was here where Vicky developed her interest and love for Africa. Vicky's Water Project aims to provide clean water to more than 20,000 people in the Dalocha region of Ethiopia.

Vicky was carrying £10.66 on the day she was killed and these were the very first funds paid towards the project. It is hoped that £226,000 can be raised and I intend to provide £1000 of this. On 30th September I'm running the Great North Run along with 200 of Vicky's family and friends. I would be hugely grateful for any donation you can make.

On the 30th September 2007,I will be running the Great North Run to raise funds for a project established in memory of Victoria Buchanan, who was tragically killed whilst bicycling to work in October 2006.

This September I will be running the Great North Run in Newcastle to raise as much money as I can for a project set up in the name of friend of mine from university Vicky Buchanan.

I hope you can sponsor me (click on Great North Run in the top right) and help change the lives of these people for ever and give Vicky an outstanding legacy.

Claire and Olly Hallam will be amongst more than 200 of Vicky's friends and family running the Great North Run on 30th September 2007 to raise money for Vicky's Water Projects. Vicky Buchanan is one of our university friends who was tragically killed in October 2006 whilst cycling to work.

Vicky ran the Great North Run with her fiance Adam for the last three years. Vicky also spent time in Ethiopia and South Africa during her studies in water development and worked with Action Aid on a project in Ethiopia in 1999.

Vicky's Water Projects has been set up with the aim of raising £226,000. This will provide a final chapter in Vicky's life by bringing clean water to more than 20,000 people in and around Lera and Demala towns in Ethiopia, transforming their lives forever. It will be a fitting tribute to Vicky, an amazing person who is so dearly missed, if we can achieve this target.

On the day that Vicky was killed she was carrying £10.88 and these were the very first funds paid into Vicky's Water Project. Please donate generously to a fantastic cause!

Thank you.

To remember her and to help something good come from her death, hundreds of Vick's friends and family will take part in the Great North Run on 30th Sept 2007. All funds raised will help bring clean water to Lera town and hopefully beyond. If you'd like to contribute ANY amount, please click on The Great North Run and make your pledge.

I will be running the Great North Run (half marathon) this September in order to raise funds for Vicky's Water Project. Vicky Buchanan was a dear friend, fiance to one of my closest friends from school, Adam, and an absolute legend of a lady. She was tragically killed last October as she was cycling to work in London.

In order to have something positive come from our loss Adam has set up Vicky's Water Project which aims to raise £226,000 to deliver clean running water to up to 20,000 people in Ethiopia, where Vicky studied during her M Phil in Water Development.

To raise these funds 200 of Vicky's friends and family will be running the Great North Run, which Adam and Vicky had run for the past three years.

To sponsor me on-line please click on Great North Run on the right hand side of this page.

Thank you very much in advance for all your support.

I will be running the Great North Run on 30th September in memory of a very special person, Vicky Buchanan. Vicky was most tragically killed last October whilst cycling to work and she is missed enormously by a great many people.

Vicky's Water Project, has been set up as a lasting legacy to Vicky by her fiance Adam Chataway. Alongside nearly 200 of Vicky's friends and family I will be pounding the streets of Newcastle to raise funds for this wonderful cause, and to ensure something positive can be gained from her loss.

Vicky's Water Project aims to raise £226,000 to enable the sustainable supply of clean water to over 18,000 people in and around Lera Town, Ethiopia. Having studied here during her MPhil, this is a cause that meant a great deal to Vicky. It is with your support that I can reach my personal target of raising over £1,000 towards our overall total.

Most of you will have seen how my naturally athletic physique has matured over the years. It will therefore come as no great surprise to hear that 13 miles shouldn't prove much of a problem for me!! Please dig deep into your pockets and help me over the line...

To sponsor me on-line please click on the 'Vicky's Water Project - Great North Run' link on the right hand side of this page.

Thank you so very much for your support.

As many of you will know on the 17th Oct 2006 a very close friend of both my wife and i, Vicky Buchannan, was tragically killed in a cycling accident in London.

Since then in excess of 200 of her family and friends have set about the task to raise money for the African water charity that Vicky established before she died. Through a number of fundraising events the ball has already started rolling toward our minimum target of £200k.

The main event however, is for us all to run the Great North Run at the end of Sept and this is something i am honoured to take part in.

The charity is an extremely worthwhile cause and you can find out more about it from this page. It is also a cause that Vicky would be extremely proud to see us all supporting.

I greatly appreciate all of the donations that are given to this event no matter how big or small.

Many thanks

Hello to you, thank you for checking out myactionaid page. On the 30th September I shall be "attempting" to run a half Marathon in Newcastle (The Great North Run 13.1 miles)
As most of you know, I am completely unfit...so all of the sponsor money I am hoping to raise will be hard earned.
I aim to raise money for Vicky's Water project which is a charity that was set up when a colleague in work's cousin was killed tragically on the way to work one day last year. The target we need to reach is a whopping £226K, which will provide clean running water to some 20,000 people in Dalocha, Ethiopia.

I recently entered a City 5K race...6500 entered and I came 4352nd! So you can tell the training might need to step up a notch! However I am unperturbed....I shall finish the half marathon on the 30th of September, even if I have to be dragged across the finish line.

Please dig deep and sponsor me!!

One year on, and I've decided to have another crack at the Great North Run! The run takes place on 5th October, and this time I'm hoping I can enjoy the 13+ miles without incurring an injury!

Last year was an incredible experience on so many levels. By returning to the GNR I hope to continue raising money towards the Lera Town Fund. ActionAid and the people of the Lera Town community will use the fund on vital projects prioritised by the people of Lera, such as education, healthcare and income generation that are so desperately needed, and can be focused upon now that - thanks to Vicky's Water Project - the most basic and important of foundations is in place – water.

I'd be truly grateful for your continued support (click the 'Great North Run' link to the right). Thank you.
