Emma Charlotte Paxton

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page!

I work for a Chemical Engineering and Environmental consultancy in Fradley, Staffordshire, not far from my home in Sutton Coldfield. I'm an active member of my local church - St Peter's, Little Aston, who supported me amazingly in my quest to go to Cambodia on the 2007 challenge. I also run the 12th Sutton Coldfield Brownie pack - yes, I also go by the name of Brown Owl. When I have a spare mo, I like meeting up with friends and family, or walking the family dog Barney.

I went on the Cambodia 2007 challenge and had quite literally the best time ever! It was a truly humbling and priviledged experience to work shoulder to shoulder with the local villagers, and seeing the buildings that we started being used and valued by the community is just fantastic! So much so, that I'm going back! (I'd best get started on improving my brick laying, digging and shovelling skills - eek!)

We all have so much that we take for granted, and only when you are working with people who literally have nothing more than the clothes on their back, a shelter and their family, do you realise how lucky we are! Despite their smiling faces, the people in the village that I will be helping have lived through some tough times, are in extreme poverty, have very little education and virtually no access to healthcare. The buildings that Action Aid will be building will give the community healthcare facilities, educational facilities for the children, drop in facilities for abused wives, HIV counselling services, and most importantly it will be run by the community themselves, enabling them to educate and empower themselves without living off handouts. Action Aid will also be working with the villagers for many years to come to give them the maximum amount of help possible.

The main reason that I want to go back is that like most of you, I don't want to just donate money and hope the problems go away, I want to actually help and do my bit, but this is where I need your help. I am looking for sponsors to help with my £3200 fundraising target, so please take a moment to have a look at the link to last years visit via this website and consider sponsoring me to help this fantastic community facililty become a reality.

Thank you!!!
