Mission Malawi 3
In May 2008 I will be taking part in Mission Malawi 3 for Action Aid, an ambitious multi-activity challenge around Lake Malawi. Mountain biking down the Dedza pass to the floor of the Great Rift Valley, hiking between striking granite peaks and past pebble beaches, and kayaking across the lake itself. My fundraising for this event will go towards the team total which hopes to exceed £127,000 raised in 2006, for ActionAid's HIV & AIDS work in Malawi and Zimbabwe.
HIV & AIDS is a cause I feel very strongly about, particularly those in Africa who are affected by it. 1 in 7 people in Malawi is living with HIV/AIDS and someone dies every 9 minutes from AIDS related illness.
In 2007 & 2008 I will be engaging in many fundraising efforts in order to reach the target of £3,200. The details of the events are at the bottom of this page.

Fundraising Diary:
19th January 2008 - Mini Mission at The Printworks. 9 intrepid cyclists set off on their static cycles hoping to cover a total of 500 miles in just 5 hours. We didn't quite make it, but over £400 was raised by the team.
2nd December 2007 - Slave Auction at AXM. The princely sum of £65 was paid by one benevolent gentleman who bought my services of massage, bathroom cleaning and an evening at the theatre.
23rd November 2007 - The Moulin Rouge Extravaganza! Held at Dukes 92 in Castlefield. This was a true team effort, with everybody pulling together to produce a spectacular, decadent evening including live entertainment with Can Can girls, burlesque, contortionist, comedian and male voice choir. I was designated stage manager for the evening and spent most of the evening behind the spotlight or shifting the stage about! A fantastic time was had by all and we raised over £4,000 for the team!
24th to 27th August 2007 - Malawi Jam & Biscuits stall at Manchester Pride. For several days I slaved over a hot stove to produce over 200 organic gingerbread men which were sold to raise money for the team over the weekend. Suffice to say they were very popular and all sold out!
Sun 19th August 2007 - Bellboat Race at Pride Games, Watersports Centre, Salford Quays. After narrowly missing out on first place in 2005, we put in a good effort this year with the 10 man team rowing for all they were worth along the stretch of water at Salford Quays. A fun afternoon, even though we didn't win!
10th June 2007 - Manchester to Liverpool bike ride. Ingredients: 2 Weetabix, 4 Red Bull, 46 miles (74 kilometres), 286 other cyclists overtaken, 2 hours 50 minutes from start to finish, 1 saddle sore but happy Billy.
