London Marathon 2008
Part of Flora London Marathon 2008
A big well done to all our 37 runners who completed the Flora London Marathon 2008 on Sunday 13th April. Despite the rain everyone made great time. It was fantastic to see so many of you at the reception with your family and friends.
A special mention to Liam, Alex, James and Maire from SSFC who completed the Mini-Marathon for ActionAid and our Convict Team who broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest chained team in 3 hours 38 minutes and 27 seconds!

On 13th April 2008, I will be running 26.2 miles in the Flora London Marathon, in a Superman costume. Am I mad?
My Message
![]() Running the London Marathon has always been one of my life goals, so what better time to do it than in my gap year?! I want to do it for the experience, the sense of achievement, and of course, to raise as much money as possible for ActionAid. ActionAid is a unique partnership of people who are fighting for a better world - a world without poverty. Those of you who have known me for a few years may recall me doing a Skydive from 13,000ft in 2005 for the very same charity. My goal for the 2008 Marathon is to beat the total I raised for my 2005 Skydive - but finding £3020.88 is not going to be easy! There are a couple of other snags, too. Firstly, I'm not a runner - and I don't even do much Sport. I'm sure the P.E. Department at Tomlinscote School can attest to the fact that I was useless at pretty much everything in their lessons! Secondly, I only began training for this Marathon 6 months before the event... my first run in November 2007 was a gruelling 0.5 mile, 10 minute long jog around my estate, and it absolutely knackered me. I still don't believe that I am actually going to be able to complete the 26.2 mile Marathon course come April time! And thirdly, I will be running the Marathon in a Superman outfit. Don't ask me why - I just thought that as I'm only going to be doing the Marathon once, I might as well dress up for the occasion. So all in all, this is a pretty big mountain for me to climb... my target finishing time is under 5 hours - which is why I need your help! Please, please give as much as you can to ActionAid for my Marathon effort. Every little helps - if 3 people donate just £20 each, a street child in India can enjoy a nutritious meal from an ActionAid street shelter every night for a year. £100 means that a medical unit could be set up and run for 5 days in Rwanda, treating over 1,000 people. And if I raise my target of just over £3,000, 4 wells in Afghanistan could be purchased and built, providing nearly 500 people with safe, clean water. What's great is that 100% of the money donated through this site, or given to me in person, will go direct to ActionAid itself. Nothing is siphoned off or used to "cover costs". Your money can make a real difference to those who have nothing. UPDATE: I ran the London Marathon in 4 hours, 34 minutes and 2 seconds. It was the most physically punishing thing I've ever done. But I did it :) |
