it depends what you're fundraising for. But the best way is to get attention, i.e. contacting local newspaper/radio/tv they've normally got a bunch of time on their hands and very little news to write about. It's a good way of getting events attention. Once you have the attention contact local companies/businesses/bars etc.. preferably something relevant to what you're venue/cause is because they always want good press. Also, if you have a venue of some sort definitely sell tickets! Maybe some lame-o raffle with prizes that are worth less than the profits (obviously =P).
Posters/flyers etc. is also a good way and obviously just telling ppl works!
