I am thinking of doing a running event for ActionAid later this year but want to do a practice run first to guage what sort of distance I can manage.

I have heard it is best to get specialist running shoes and was wondering whether anyone knew any good shops/sites I could use?

Hi there,

Yes, do think it is a good idea to go to a specialist shop - I went to 'Run and Become' in Victoria - they did a really good job with me. They will try various trainers on you and get you to run up and down outside, and watch your ankles (not as embarrassing as it sounds) and then try different ones that support different parts of your foot, depending on how you run. They were cheaper than normal fashion trainers (although not cheap as such) and saw me though the Great South Run and beyond. Best of luck. What race you thinking of doing?
