The Kilimanjaro Challenge in support of ActionAid This 12-day charity challenge starts off with three days of volunteer work helping children at a local school in Moshi – one of the Tanzania’s poorest communities – carrying out much needed repairs and refurbishment, including renovating classrooms, clearing land for sports and recreation and restoring furniture. In addition, we will be spending time with the pupils themselves! Having met the locals and hopefully having helped them to rebuild their school, we will begin the climb of ‘Kili’ (as it is affectionately called by those who made it home) which towers 5,985 meters (19,340 feet) above the plains below. During the rise, we will battle altitude sickness while trekking through 5 major eco-zones, including rainforest, alpine desert and glazier. The 11th day of the trek will be the toughest day as we will ascend 1,097 meters (3,600 feet) and descend 2,195 meters (7,200 feet) in a period of 12-15 hours.
My Message
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page and believing that a little insanity and big hearts can work wonders…
In October 2008, we will leave the comfort of our homes behind and attempt to conquer the tallest free standing mountain in the world – Mount Kilimanjaro – in support of ActionAid.
The first three days of this charity challenge we will spend with children at a local school in one of the Tanzania’s poorest communities – Moshi – the very people we are there to help!
Then we will begin the climb of Mt Kilimanjaro which towers 5,985 meters above the plains below. During the rise, we will battle altitude sickness while trekking through 5 major eco-zones; including rainforest, alpine desert and glazier.
We’ve decided to take on this challenge in support of ActionAid which is an international anti-poverty charity fighting poverty and injustice worldwide and the causes that ActionAid’s work so tirelessly for every single day are very close to both our heart and we feel that giving up a fortnight of our lives to make a difference to the existence of so many less fortunate people is really no that much of a hardship!
The two of us have pledged to raise a minimum of £6,000 but with your help we hope to raise a lot more! We ask each and every one of you to help us with a donation of some kind, no matter how large or small.
Donating through this site is simple, fast, totally secure and the most efficient way to sponsor us – all donations made via this site will go straight into ActionAid’s bank account.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support!
