About me

Hello. My name is Mike Buggy. I'm a father of 2(grown-up)sons and recently retired as a Civil Servant in Portsmouth. My interests are sailing, mountain-biking, mountain walking, and (summer)windsurfing. I have supported several charities for many years, but always found excuses to avoid greater involvement, particularly if the effort is unduly strenuous or expensive.
As I recently reached a point where work and family commitments had lessened, I felt I could do more to help those who are less fortunate, so I joined the charity Action Aid's 2008 London Marathon running team.
Action Aid is an extremely well respected charity which works to better the lives of people in all deprived areas of the world. Participants in the marathon team were committed to raise funds on behalf of the Charity.
My training over the winter was hard work and I found that stamina and determination were needed by the bucketload. Your help and encouragement was the key factor in getting me through to the big day.

I finally managed to complete the run, albeit painfully. I was helped by the crowd and by the thought that I (normally a selfish, lazy person) might at last be helping someone else.
