UK Fundraisers

Engage your community with the work of ActionAid.  No idea is too small when it comes to fundraising!  Start off with placing collection tins in your local shops, then move to cake sales or bric-a-brac stall.  Organise a collection at your local supermarket or try your hand at carol singing at your local train station.

On your own, with friends, through work or with a local group, the money you raise can make a real difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people.

Knitting on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square

From 9am-10am on 2nd October I will be standing on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of the One and Other artwork. I will be raising awareness of the need for child sponsorship and being sponsored to knit for the hour.

My Message

Update to message below: I had a fantastic time on the plinth. It was amazing to be able to get the message out to such a wide audience. Thanks to everyone who supported me either in sponsorship, messages of support or in sponsorship. I think the money may top the £500 mark.  More importantly I hope that it has raised the profile of child sponsorship and others will decide to sponsor a child.

You all know that I am always knitting! Some call it an obsession - I call it relaxing. Not sure how relaxed I will be knitting 8 meters up in full public view in Trafalgar Square but I am giving it a go!

Some of you also know that ActionAid is a charity very dear to me.  My Dad supported it - it was the only thing he ever went door to door collecting for - and we have sponsored  children, in Malawi and in India for nearly 10 years.

So at 9am on 2nd October I will step onto the plinth and start knitting.  I am aiming to knit about 60 rows of 17 stitches - each stitch will represent one child who will die of poverty whilsty  I am on the plinth. I also want to raise awareness of child sponsorship through posters etc.

Please help me raise some money at the same time. It costs around £18 a month to sponsor a child. £216 is the equivalent of one years sponsorship, £432 two years. ActionAid will then use the money as they see best.

The more I raise the faster I'll knit!!
